The only country without Traffic lights

Heres what you need to know about the only country without traffic lights in the world. A proper, modern traffic light would cost Nu 400,000 to 500,000 ( $6000 to 7000 USD). There would be additional costs for maintaining the lights throughout the year. Traffic lights are also known to increase rear-end collisions due to abrupt braking. World economic forum has also claimed that traffic signals ae the hotspot for pollution. The failure of traffic signal also would lead to chaos for the commuters leading to numerous accidents.

Bhutan has no such issues. It is the only country in the world with no traffic signal. Although the capital of Bhutan has soaring traffic it still doesn’t have traffic lights. There was an attempt to install traffic lights on the heart of Thimphu but proved too inconvenient for the commuters. If the country does not have any traffic lights how is there a smooth flow of traffic? We have to thank our young dedicated traffic police who work tirelessly in shifts to ensure that there are no untoward incidences. A traditional junction of Bhutanese traffic comprises of two intersecting lanes with a roundabout in the middle. The roundabout houses a room for a dedicated policeman who single directs the entire traffic.
